Mijn werk is een mengeling van installatie, video, foto, performance en guerrilla acties. Ik houd ervan om werk te maken voor een specifieke locatie. Elk nieuw werk is een onderzoek naar de plek zelf en zijn omgeving. Deze onderzoeken beïnvloeden en vormen mijn ideeën over de openbare ruimte en hoe politiek invloed heeft op de stedelijke ontwikkeling. Thema’s als woningbouw en woonbeleid komen aan de orde. Mijn projecten vormen een afspiegeling van de huidige politiek en mentaliteit van de bewoner, zoals in het project I love Beirut goed zichtbaar is. In sommige projecten gebruik ik een boormachine, om dingen systematisch te kunnen slopen. In andere projecten laat ik juist foto’s zien van gebroken ramen. Ik vind het namelijk noodzakelijk om ook de imperfecties toe te laten in ons leven, want het zijn juist deze details die het leven spannend maken en een stad levendig.

Door de stijgende woningprijzen en het woonbeleid zijn veel huren torenhoog. Dit werk refereert hier aan.
Artist versus Concrete - 2022 / Video performance at BIGART at the former Bijlmer bajes. In the video I destroy a pillar of the building, referring to a break-out in prison. Duration: 8 min.
Slopen is geen must - 2021 / Een tijdelijk kunstwerk in de vorm van een bouwbord, dat uit elkaar lijkt te vallen. Dit bouwbord gaat niet zo zeer over bouwen, maar meer over sloop en verval. Door dit werk in de context van de stad te plaatsen, wil ik extra aandacht vestigen op de maatschappelijke discussie die op het moment gaande is over het woningbeleid van Rotterdam. Het kunstwerk reist voor 6 maanden door Rotterdam en staat in totaal op 5 verschillende plekken in de stad.
KOSTBAR - 2020 - 2021 / Een tijdelijk kunstproject aan de gevel van een zeer prominent gebouw in Dresden.
Judy van Luyk heeft voor een zeer prominent gebouw in Dresden een tijdelijk kunstwerk vervaardigd. Zij markeert het gebouw als KOSTBAR (kostbaar in het Nederlands). Dit gebouw midden in het centrum van Dresden, heeft 30 jaar leeg gestaan en wordt nu eindelijk gerenoveerd. Tijdens de renovatie bedekken twee fotobanners de façades van het gebouw aan de Sidonienstrasse in Dresden.

I Love Beirut - 2018 / Photoshop simulation

For my two-month residency in Beirut, I proposed an art project in public spaces and travelled to Beirut to research the city and to give further shape to the project. The outcome is a series of proposals for interventions in public spaces. ‘I love Beirut’ is a reaction to the city and its history – a city that bears the visible scars of war and a shaky peace, but at the same time it displays a kindness and zest for life so typical of the population of Beirut. They love their city, but hate it too.
Time’s up - 2019 - 2020 / Installation and Stop motion video projected in public space / Rotterdam, The Netherlands
This stop motion video shows the destruction process of a wall segment by means of drilling. By using different drill sizes, the wall slowly crumbles beautifully away, until time runs out.

‘Breaking the Image’ is a video performance recorded during a short stay at this art centre in Bretagne. The focus lies on the mirror image of the castle and its constant destruction and reappearance.
