Douwe Halbertsma (1980) is an artist who lives and works in Rotterdam. He makes sculptures and works in public space.
As a sculptor, Douwe takes a fresh look at tradition, but just as easily refers to comic and other visual culture.
His fascination for the formal possibilities and limitations of the medium is always accompanied by a humor that puts his images into perspective. The play with the fundamental concepts of sculpture, such as the tension between the presence and absence of space, the presence and absence of mass, does not remain an abstract concept. But it always gets a consequence in the sense of his images.
Douwe exhibits nationwide and has completed various assignments, both in public space and for private clients.
