Eric Jan van de Geer

artistic research - drawing - photography - screen printing - painting

Eric Jan van de Geer sees himself as an observer of familiar everyday images. An artist who focuses on the essence of images, their visualization, presentation and representation of them.
Van de Geer always starts taking photos or searches for existing images. He questions this photographic reality through extensive analysis.
Precisely the non-literal registration of the chosen subject; a more abstract representation fits very well with the way in which he conducts visual research. The 'original' original photographic images of subjects such as clouds, flowers, packaging and postcards are deconstructed and rasterized, digitized and reassembled using different media. With this method he tries to penetrate to the essence of the image by using reduction and abstraction. Can reality be captured in one image? What does reproduction mean to display the image? What is the reality?
