Marleine van der Werf

Marleine van der Werf (1985, CH / NL) is a filmmaker / visual artist working from a documentary starting point and based in Rotterdam. Her artistic research focuses on how we can experience the world of others. With film and XR installations, Van der Werf creates haptic experiences to challenge the understanding of the other and the self. Recurring themes are consciousness, identity, embodiment and our subjective perception of reality.

She collaborates with renowned experts in neuroscience, the arts and humanities. Her award-winning films and installations have been shown on television & international art and film festivals such as IDFA (NL), Human Rights film festival Seoul (KR), FILE Festival in Sao Paolo (BR), Future of storytelling New York (US) and Art Basel ( CH). She won the NEXT Talent Award (20Playgrounds Digital Art Festival), ACT award (2019, STRP) and Sundance interdisciplinary grantee (2021). In 2023 she did the Emap artist in residency
