Yvonne van den Herik

drawing - artistic research

Yvonne van den Herik makes drawings with Indian ink and brush on paper and recently also tape-drawings with self-made tape on paper or XL on walls and windows.
The black and white works arise by mixing fragments of earlier drawings, visual notes and explorative photo works, more or less like a DJ uses samples of recorded music. Lines, shapes and (a) rhythms originate from a direct, physical and visually intuitive process, alternatively drawing on paper and digital tablet: making and thinking merge, eye and hand are one.
Questioning perception and visual thinking again and again fundamental interventions such as connecting and disconnecting or 'adding and subtracting' play an essential role in this freehand drawing process.
