So it is a spiral recursive process, and it starts not at the beginning, nor at the end, perhaps it starts in the middle. There is very little recognition to what was suggested, required, assumed before. Each turn a recalibration, as for the practice, a bit of everything. When cooking, mix in spice or quantum carbon; when molding, configure as if blind; when voicing, stop for a second dream about the uncodified. What I'm saying is a riddle, a song of care, a ritual of carpeting, a question that opens, an answer that upsets. I will never talk about, I speak = do = make = care = create.

  • [蒸汽船] Steamboat is an ongoing collaborative research project between three artists, Nele Brökelmann, Katarina Petrović and June Yu, that focuses on new ways of making. The starting point is a shared interest in support structures and how they could make one themselves. In doing so, Nele, Katarina and June take the steamboat as a metaphor, a technology that started global upheavals and changed global relations.

  • Locatie: Het Nieuwe Instituut, Rotterdam
  • In this series of workshops, participants experience travel through different scales of time and space. This way of looking and experiencing can help to construct stories that can bridge the binary gap between human and non-human life, between living and non-living matter. The workshops are intended to provoke discussion, stimulate the imagination, and foster collective learning and a sense of community.

  • Copying is an act that has principally been understood as prohibited. Conflated with plagiarism, protected against by copyright laws, copying is seen as an infringement on property and individuals' creativity. Do these negative perspectives on copying need updating? How might copying be re-understood as a creative and empowering act? With a selection of speakers you can copy from, we will have an evening of copy-paste activities, discussions and perhaps some creativity after all.

  • This playful workshop will explore the meaning of reading and different ways in which we do so. Together we will discuss how we pick a book and how aware we are of our reading patterns. Can we find new ways of reading? For this workshop, the non-reading reading group invites you to bring a book and read it differently.

Rotterdam Devoid

Tentoonstelling / presentatie

  • In samenwerking met: Jaime Levinas, Dimitris Damaskos
  • Locatie: Hofpoort, Rotterdam
  • Rotterdam has the ambition to become a world city within ten years. Architecture is the most present form of art in Rotterdam and gives the visitor an impression of space in abundance. Both in the urban layout and in the amount of vacancy. Until now, the art landscape of Rotterdam only contributes to this idea. The art project Rotterdam Devoid investigates whether the abundance of space in this city can be given a different meaning by placing emptiness at its center.
