Múz Spaans

cross-over

Múz Spaans (1996) is schooled in both design (Sint Lucas) and fine art (Willem de Kooning). Combining his practical and conceptual skillset he develops projects that involve both mind and body. In his work he lets materials speak through their inherent qualities. His work is informed by their textures, patterns and unstable nature.

Internal Recordings act (2) - During a groupshow at De Loods, Breda, Dagmar Marent and I created different acts in which the exhibition was changed through the interaction of the public with the works. The show opened to a number of different participating groups including Humanistisch Verbond, elementary school kids and the normal entourage of art lovers.
In Mazen en Streken - During my work as a shepherd in the Maasduinen nature reserve it was my job to place electric fences to keep hungry wolves out and the sheep in their designated grazing area. I got fascinated by this way of controlling the landscape. The whole reserve was designed with 'zwerfkeien', had to be grazed and mowed to maintain our ideal nature experience. De precision by which the netting had to be placed on this inconsistent landscape inspired me to make a sculptural piece from a stone I found in the reserve.
Set design Teeth ,n’ Wings - For the production of a pilot episode about a group of vampires and their angel counterparts I built a set. For the vampires I made stone like sculptures out of old piano's and a from the remains an outdoor set. For the angels I collected wooden beams and built a bench and a throne out of these.
Hearing Barker (After Barker Speaks) - During my residence at Atelier AM I presented my research and findings in the form of a performative lecture. The set and probs where made by me during my stay.
Drawing on the Bottom of the Waal - During 'Festival de Oversteek' I descended down the shore of the river Waal which was on an all time low. Luckily there was a city photographer to capture this historical moment for the archive of the city of Nijmegen.
