Tobias Bijl

Tobias Bijl (1981) is a Dutch photographer and visual storyteller based in Rotterdam. After a study Philosophy at the Utrecht University, he graduated in 2017 at the Fotoacademie in Amsterdam. In 2019-2020 he’s following an ISSP International Masterclass by Lisa Barnard.
In long-term and research-based projects he makes work where he collects archival material and footage and combines them with other visual media like photography and video. With a strong fascination in repetitive patterns in history he investigates the intersection between evolution and the collective memory. As a starting point he connects a current, urgent theme from society to a historical event in order to unravel underlying structures that can tell something universal about humanity.
