Aida Valdés

sculptuur , proces , installatie , Artistiek onderzoek

Aida Valdés is a Spanish artist based in Rotterdam, where she is currently completing an MFA at
the Piet Zwart Institute. Her practice moves between object, image, and installation. She works
with pre-existing objects and materials such as photographs, drawings, texts, and found
elements, bringing them together to generate new formal and symbolic relationships.
A recurring interest in her practice is the use of clichés, both those inherent to sculptural language
and those circulating within popular culture. Drawing from a romantic and archetypal imaginary:
amulets, necklaces, hearts, veils, melodramatic gestures. Through processes of enlargement and
displacement, she seeks to emancipate these objects from their relationship to the body,
transforming them into autonomous forms that invite physical, spatial, and perceptual
engagement

This exhibition presents a sculptural ensemble in which form is constructed through a constant tension between ornament and structure. Rather than being understood as opposites, the two contaminate one another, acquiring a narrative dimension that, through an autobiographical approach, functions as a device for intertwining memory and fantasy.

Aida Valdés practice approaches sculpture as an ambiguous body, suspended between solidity and fragility, between supporting and being supported.

‘It won’t hurt this time’ verkent een romantische, archetypische verbeeldingswereld waarin afwezigheid en verlangen centraal staan.
