I am a research-based curator and a multidisciplinary artist who uses self-representation to redefine contemporary social classes.\r\n\r\nQuestioning and embracing gender identity and sexuality is at the centre of my artistic practice, using my body as a concept and medium. Transforming exotified and historical western aesthetics, I honour and reapproriate the representations of my [working] class and [Mediterranean] diaspora while bringing tenderness and sensory pleasure into politics. I push the limits of the mediums I use by bringing a performative and site-specific aspect to my paintings, ceramics, and photographs.\r\n\r\nDespite its engaged tone, my work is often tender and humorous. With an immoderate taste for kitsch aesthetics and extravagance, I developed a seductive and colourful universe where beauty and sensuality merge with a playful and critical view of power dynamics. My work, in its essence, can be assimilated to camp, as I perform gender, ethnicity, and class through its various expressions.\r\n\r\nMy curator practice lies in the organisations I co-founded, which are Squish, a queer-feminist cultural platform that works with LGBT+ makers and studies identity politics with an intersectional approach; and Kollection Kitsch, an exhibition series democratising fine arts financially and conceptually by invading places not primarily dedicated to them. Featuring proletarian artists exploring rejected or mocked themes and aesthetics, KK praises bad taste and pop culture.
