The works by Bastiaan de Kramer consist of drawing and tattoos that contain a personal folklore, full of symbols, observations and stories that talk about growth and transformation. They are tales about the wish of the world and man to transcend itself, to wake up in a new and better form. Driven by the sub-conscious and imagination, the works reflect on daily existence and the (according to the artist) impending end of the world. He works slow and thereby creates a psychedelic echo in which the works whisper about a positive nihilism. The works are a bit like a cosmic laugh, treading water twenty kilometers from the coast. Scenes of an approaching doom (or do I see the lights of a ship in the distance?)
