Blise is a spatial practitioner with a background in interior design. She graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 2019 and moved to Rotterdam in 2021. In 2023 she completed the master interior architecture at the Piet Zwart Institute. She is a multidisciplinary practitioner with a focus on digital culture & ethics of technology.

Her practise critically breaks from the boundaries of architecture as a discipline, reconsidering what it means to be considered an architect today. Her artistic research considers how spatial design impacts ideologies of ecology in relation to our post-natural environment.

Interrogating the database - Future of natural history collections
Interrogating the database - Future of natural history collections - Interrogating the database - Future of natural history collections speculates on the future of museums in relation to the digital. Previously, the project consisted mainly of making digital videos and researching with museums about the collections they hold. This project will be further developed by bringing the videos to life through 3D still lives.
Knowledge Systems
Knowledge Systems - Specimens unearthed during the research process, this work invites contemplation on the nature of reality. It engages in a dialogue with both natural history museums and the post-natural history they represent, exploring the enigmatic aspects of our surroundings. In a world perpetually evolving through genetic modifications, extraction, and natural hybridisations, our perception of reality undergoes a parallel transformation in this era of technological advancement. The work investigates systemic phenomena through the exploration of open source online databases featuring 3d replicas of specimens from collections from various museums of natural history. Large digital files, existing within a distinct space and time, shed their textures, colours, materialities, and narratives. These crucial elements that aid our association, comparison, and relation to them are deliberately absent, confined to the museum collections. The digital skeletons are deliberately distorted, highlighting the profound impact of the datafication of the natural world.
Heterotopias
Heterotopias - At the end of last year we exhibited our Heterotopias project onboard the SS Rotterdam. We custom built the displays with reference to the materials used on classic ship interiors from the 40s and 50s. Displaying on board the ship the research that we had conducted lead to an interactive installation of sorts. It gave physicality to the work and enabled the research to grow as the exhibition was on show.
Dual Truths
Dual Truths - The work depicts ‘ideological information bubbles’ fashioned through the architectural and socio- cultural form of the cruise ship. A body of research that reflects this vast expanse of hidden landscapes. The work invests in research on the topic of cruise ships and through various forms of data gathering, from primary research to interviews and research through drawing we distill a social critique to develop the research into a new aesthetic paradigm. To unravel this phenomenon we invest in research through inspirational resources from different Maritime institutions in Rotterdam. The ships that are examined, offer a space of spectacle and simulation. Even though it appears these vessels only function at sea they also enable an invisible social structure on land, through their physical presence in ports, delegation, and hierarchies at sea as well as their deconstruction process. Will the ship become the new sanctuary of the future or will it simply function to act as a haven for retired seamen, enabling what remains of the past to be cast back out into the world?
Digital Crossings (2021)
Digital Crossings (2021) - Ocean liners, transitioning across waters, glide into new hybrid spaces each journey they take. Using data as a visualization method to show the movement and the mass of these objects I created an entangled world between a found flower and open source data. The animation highlights the interactions between nature and the vehicle of the ship. Using different forms of data collection to compile and explore the Heterotopia of the ocean liner.

Cove Park - Mini Residency

Datum:
Locatie: Scotland UK
In samenwerking met: Cove Park

While at Cove Park, I focused on developing work that looks at the traces left by residents and locals in the area as they pass through the grounds. I traced the information they upload to applications such as ‘Iplant’ and ‘Obsidentify’ in order to better understand their dialogue with the site and with the nature around the site.

Dutch Design Week Exhibition - Asterix Advanced Research

Datum:
Locatie: Amsterdam Nieuwe West &; Microstad Eindhoven
In samenwerking met: Artez & Pakhuis de zwijger

Blise has been working with her own reality having been brought up in a completely manufactured landscape in Scotland's new town East Kilbride currently undergoing a plan for regeneration after a slow decline since 1947 when the town was erected, the regeneration is unknown to many including the main protagonist in this video for DDW. Blise found the relation to the Nieuwe West site through considering what it means to live in a space completely altered.
