Eddy Seesing is an audiovisual portraitist. After intensive cultural anthropological research of a specifically defined group in western society, Seesing develops a concept. These concepts lead to series of portraits in the media photography and/or video. With these series of portraits Eddy Seesing creates installations, exhibitions. Seesing shows the portrayed individuals as part of a larger framework of social and specific professional and economic relations. Apart from documenting a certain group in western society, Seesing aims at influencing public opinion. He uses the media photography and video to create works of cultural and societal analyses. Since his graduation from the Academy of Design Seesing created the following works: Topmanagers (1994/1995), Opera Sopranos (1997/1999), Boughaz: portrait of three generations Moroccans in Gouda (2001/2003), Religion Today - Spirituality in the Netherlands (2004/2011), The Lobby Experience (2014/2020). With the Religion Today project he published his first book.
Religion Today - How members of religious communities practice their faith at home
Revitalize the Religion Today project (2004-2011) by producing a new series of photos in which the camera is aimed not at the religious leaders, but at the members. I now want to photograph members of all 71 religious communities portrayed in the first Religion Today series at home in a place where they practice their faith.
The Lobby Experience
The Lobby Experience is a multimedia installation that reveals a closed and hidden professional group that often operates outside the scope of attention and beyond all supervision: the Public Affairs Professional. 20 of them are shown in The Lobby Experience, 10 of them are active at Dutch Parliament and ten are active at the EU. The Lobby Experience shows how they influence important social issues. With the question to what extent this influences or even manipulates democratic decision-making.
Religion Today - Spirituality in the Netherlands
Religion Today – Spirituality in the Netherlands is a photo project centred on 71 different leaders of various religious communities in the Netherlands. Each of the leaders is portrayed in liturgical or religious clothing along with those attributes of his or her particular faith and in the surroundings of that faith. Eddy Seesing assembled and arranged a book along with this project, which was published by THOTH in Bussum.
