Artist and designer, my exploration field goes from sounds to colors, shapes and lights. I enjoy working with my immediate environment but also materializing concepts and systems.

Brutus Take Over
Brutus Take Over - This summer, Brutus invited Rotterdam creators and initiatives to participate in a Brutus Takeover: a dynamic seven-week program. As a way to discover artistic practices that might not be on our immediate radars. Every week, for seven weeks, the “Bureel” will be handed over to the selected creative(s). This initiative serves as a platform for creative exchange, aiming to contribute to, support and strengthen the cultural ecosystem. Amira Gad and Sophie de Vos, together with the Brutus team, made the final selection. Architecture Workshop - OBS Het Landje - From the 22nd to the 25th of April 2024, we collaborated with 3 classes of the OBS Het Landje Rotterdam basic school on a workshop revolving around architecture and urbanism. During these 4 days, we worked with students on the collaborative construction of 3 original metropolises. The results were displayed in the Nieuwe Instituut along other architectural creations of the students. The first day saw each group thinking of their own city through the collective drawing of a map. This step aimed to understand the way a city can be structured and what type of construction we can, should, and wish to find within it. The cities were divided into 3 types of construction: - housing (ex: apartments, private houses), - the activities (ex: bakery, sports stadium, harbor), - public infrastructures (ex: bridge, city hall, hospital), Each of these elements was given a color code that guided the organization and understanding of the cities throughout the entirety of the workshop. The second day was dedicated to the actual making of each construction or intervention within the urban area. The students moved from their 2D plans and drawings into 3D shapes by creating volumes out of cardboard. These volumes were placed according to the plan previously drawn. The third day focused on applying the color code to each building or infrastructure previously built. This simple division of the metropolis helped organize discussions and reflections between the students about the newly constructed cities. It also allowed for an intuitive understanding of the subdivisions implemented in the city. During the 4th day, each group of students recorded a soundscape related to their cities and the infrastructures within it. This sound intervention introduced the students to basic foley recording techniques and depicted life in their city. This final addition allowed students to inhabit the cities they built with their own sounds and sonic expressions. Many thanks to: OBS Het Landje and all the teachers who trusted us and helped bring this workshop to life. The students and their genuine involvement in building these unique cities. Our intern at the time Meta Scholtens who provided great help in structuring the activities. Het Nieuwe Instituut for hosting and presenting the results of this research.

Leaning Sounds
Leaning Sounds
Leaning Sounds
Leaning Sounds - Leaning Sounds is an interactive installation inviting the user to apprehend and perceive the environment through the use of sounds. By touching and moving around the objects, one can reach different sonorities and reveal the space around them. Spaces we live in are defined by function. In the space we offer, sound becomes an architectural element giving a new meaning to the environment. By controlling and shaping sounds, the user appreciates space in a unique way. The physical pieces that lie in it are the receptacle of diverse sonorities, each of them specific to a point in space. It is by seeking to apprehend these different sound points that the user takes possession of the place. We believe that allowing sound to be a composing element of a space is a necessary abstraction. It is by considering our habitats as places of poetry that we would like to widen the field of our sensory prospects, introducing into spaces a rational yet dreamlike perspective. The structures that compose the installation invite the observer to move around it in order to understand their forms and perspectives. It is by touching them that the user will reveal their potential. Each one of their conductive layers will allow a different sound to be broadcasted into space. It is by seeking to reach these different layers that the room will be filled with sounds, tones becoming vectors for discovering space, giving meaning and function to shapes that had none before. Sounds Of Touches
Sounds Of Touches
Sounds Of Touches
Sounds Of Touches - Sound of touches is an architectural and intuitive device. It invites the player to musical creation through a sensorial object that stands out from classical synthesizers by its shape, colors, and readability. Through a system of organized proportions, the object emits sounds in accordance with its shape. The device can be discovered and understood by its simple use, no technical knowledge being required to experience it. The sounds arising from the forms are amplified and distorted. Some are analogous and respond to pressure from a hand or the pluck of a string. Others echo the direct environment in which the instrument is placed, notably by a game of light intensity. Digital sounds are thus directly linked to the real world. The physical architecture of the instrument therefore becomes the unaltered reflection of the sounds it emits, allowing music to be perceived as a living and intuitive game of proportions.
Melodic Gestures
Melodic Gestures
Melodic Gestures
Melodic Gestures - Melodic Gesture is a project that poetically reveals the relationship between movements and sounds during the practice of sports. By creating a device able to translate gestures into sounds according to an algorithmic system, this table becomes an object making the players aware of the sounds of their play. The origin of this project is the awareness of a phenomenon observable in many sports and games. In these practices where movements generate sounds, a reciprocal relationship is often observed. The athlete generates sounds through his movements in space and uses these same sounds to assess his own performances. When Ronaldinho manages to hit the crossbar several times in a row, the sound of the ball hitting the frame becomes a witness to his precision but also allows the sport to enter another dimension. The player is not only looking to win but to create and perform. What he achieves is certainly a sporting performance, but above all a sensitive performance. Thus, art and sport are one. The device I am proposing aims to embody this relationship between gestures and sounds. During this experience, the two players choose to compete or complement each other. Their gestures will be processed and instantly translated into meaningful sounds. The benchmark game here is table tennis. In each of the movements performed, the trajectory of the ball, its height, and its speed are associated with harmonic musical elements. The result is a symphony of the play where actors can choose to collaborate to emphasize the value of sounds, or to compete using sound cues to perform. This performance object is a tool for a better understanding of this phenomenon of reciprocity between gestures and sound elements. It allows its players to understand gestures differently. Their movements now make sounds and these sounds respond logically and harmoniously to their movements. For the viewers, gestures now answer to sounds, and sounds seem to engender gestures. "How Design Sounds" is an exhibition where sound is the protagonist, and establishes relationships, or resonances, between the various works. Sometimes the works offer us delightful melodies, at other times, already mute, they invoke memories of sounds long hidden and forgotten. Taking us all by surprise. "Como o Design Soa" intends to be a corollary of emotions, and sensory experiences, which, through sound, reverberate to an experience with several hands and multiple tonalities.
