In my work as artist and potter I explore the intertwined relationship between myself and the tangible matter that forms me and gets formed by me. At the core of my practice lies a fascination with the inherent characteristics of materials, such as clay and paper, and their reciprocal response to the making process. I focus on the unique qualities of each material I work with to highlight its language, history and potential. To me the delicate texture of paper or the malleability of clay are a collaborator rather than just a tool. In working with the materials inherent force, I allow it to shape the final piece in unexpected and beautiful ways. The pursuit of a deep understanding of materials inspires me to explore and appreciate traditional crafts and craftsmanship, Ie paper making, weaving, analog photography and a focus in pottery.
