Fatima was born and raised in Aghjalar, Kurdistan (Iraq). She studied Business Administration in Baghdad and fled to the Netherlands in 1997 for political reasons. In 2005, she graduated cum laude from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, the Netherlands.
Fatima’s work is an echo of changing landscapes and of stories that continue to live on. It revolves around connection, diversity, environment, and transformation, rooted in personal experiences and nostalgic memories of her homeland. In her practice, she explores how historical, Islamic and Kurdish elements can be interwoven with the whispers of Western abstraction. This creates a space where cultural differences do not stand in opposition, but rather inspire one another, and where the shared heritage between the Middle East and Europe becomes visible like a veil. Geometry lies at the heart of her visual language: lines and patterns that touch and transcend boundaries, that open proportions and reflect the hidden order of nature. These forms embody both the mathematical harmony of nature and the fragile balance between memory and change.
