Flo Verhulst (Amsterdam, 1999) creates images because they want them to matter. They are an artist, director, and photographer whose work revolves around exploring the emotional complexities and contradictions, trauma, and healing through the lens of the camera - using the medium as both a tool of expression and a medium for introspection, healing, and, ultimately, transformation. Balancing on the border between the personal and the political, their work is inspired by intimacy, vulnerability, and dreams, with a focus on exploring and representing queer and trans identities. Their photography serves as a medium of self-discovery, often using personal themes as a basis for visual storytelling. Through (self-)portraiture, symbolism, and conceptual photography, they aim to evoke emotions, spark reflection, and open up the space for conversations about the untold narratives in our lives.
