Pombo’s practice is deeply rooted in duality: playfulness and discomfort, the familiar and the surreal. The characters (often large-scale puppets) and sets she creates embody this tension, drawing from Catholic iconography, mythology, and personal contradictions. They are soft yet unsettling, vibrant yet grim, and exist as physical manifestations of imaginary worlds interwoven with her lived experiences.
Experimentation lies at the heart of Pombo’s process. She works across various media—drawings, textiles, video, zines, and performance—constantly testing ideas that later inform her larger projects. Her fascination with movement, particularly inspired by music videos, has led her to explore animation and stop-motion as a way to bring her creations to life.
Ultimately, Pombo’s work serves both as a form of personal exploration and a means of connection, inviting audiences to engage with themes such as identity, expectation, and wonder. Through continuous experimentation, she seeks to push her practice toward new, unexpected visual forms.

Extrapool Distillaat #22
