Employing versatile media such as installation, sculpture and drawing, the work of Hedvig Koertz repositions spacial points of view and negotiates the value and role of surrounding materialities and objects. Specifically, her work and research process explores the difficult relation between interiority, surface level and exteriority: focusing on how understandings of this relation influence design and how design, in turn, shapes the body. Her practice most often entails a site specific approach with a strong sensitivity toward the historical context and atmosphere of a place with attention to architectural detail. Hedvig is founder and caretaker of an other world project space in Rotterdam Carnisse. In collaboration with artists Jake Caleb and Ari David, she facilitates, hosts and programs events and exhibitions with a focus on experimentation, observation and dialogue.

Inhabited forms
Inhabited forms (2023-ongoing) - Research image panel developed in the context of the thematic workshop series: “Investegating E/Iconomic Sediments” - image oriented gatherings curated by Philipp Schwalb discussing a range of themes using art historian Aby Warburg’s Iconomy as method. My panel investigates the idea of “familiarity” as well as “inhabiting”. Images are taken from my ongoing research interest in design as confinement and includes various designs, works of art and artefacts that I inserted into the architectural typology of a family house. The panel served to discuss and deconstruct personal as well as collective perceptions and conceptions of the family . The images became a discursive tool to debate the familial gaze, family structures, family economics, kinship and more. Using images from books by Marshall Mcluhan, Charles and Ray Eames, Richard Dreyfuss, Valley Export and Ernst Neufert

Half-consciously, from several angles - fragment from installation 2018. A collaboration with Jakob Ehrlich, shown at Ovartaci Museum Aarhus, a former psychiatric institution. In a series of photographs we re-enacted specific habits and bodily compulsions we had noticed ourselves doing in our own homes. Dwelling on otherwise unapparent, trivial gestures and placing them in an exhibition setting, turned them into markers of exposed intimacy. We countered this imagery with built spacial interventions which were meant to echo the portrayed behaviour into the spacial setting.
