The meeting of the known with the unknown. From this flows the curiosity of the left hand to guide the right. Sometimes touching clay, sometimes sketching with a pen, sometimes looking through a camera, sometimes bending a teaspoon, sometimes tapping on a computer keyboard, sometimes building a collage. But constantly this hand will be attached to Valerie. A person who can do a little bit of everything.
Valerie is a fresh graduate from the RASL program. This program contains a combination of two studies. At Willem de Kooning Academy she studied Transformation Design in combination with the study of Arts and Culture at Erasmus University. This study gave her the opportunity to develop her knowledge on an academic level as well as on an artistic level.
Yn it Gers
The results from a nine-day residency in Makkinga, Friesland. The works range from textiles and objects to photography, video, and performance. These works reveal how personal perspectives and shared experiences can be woven into new stories. The exhibition shares what sprouted in the Frisian grass, now brought to life in the city.
Mak(k)ing(a)
A 9-day residency organised by Valerie. 8 artists came together to investigate the Frisian landscapes, their own practice, and create artworks ranging from textile to audiovisual work. All the materials used during this residency came from De Her (environmental park in Rotterdam). All works are made from or with second-hand material.

Tentoonstelling van jonge kunstenaars georganiseerd door EUC studenten. Tijdens de exposities is mijn werk "six hundred seventy one" tentoongesteld met de volgende omschrijving:
44 days, 671 pieces of trash, including 31 pads and Valerie’s 4 year old copper coil.
I gave away my copper coil and my period thoughts to this old pillowcase which became my discarding diary. It carries the burden, thoughts, blood and cramps with me.
