Joke Olthaar werkt als kunstenaar in theater, films en beeldend werk. Ze heeft een rijke ervaring als theatermaker. Al haar performances gaan over de natuur en/of worden in de natuur opgevoerd. Bij het maken van films is ze gefascineerd door de manier waarop mensen zich fysiek bewegen in verschillende ruimtes. Door hun bewegingen te volgen, probeert ze haar publiek in een andere staat van zijn te brengen. Ze probeert mensen naar een andere wereld te verplaatsen.

The mountain exerts an elusive attraction and, through the absence of humans in the frame, takes on an almost mythical status. “Mountain” is a study of texture, light, and sound, momentarily easing humanity's awe of nature—in hypnotic cinema.

Berg is part of a group exhibition.
Olthaar is fascinated by nature, both in theater and film. Berg is her first feature-length documentary and has been screened at film festivals worldwide. The film offers a visual experience of a vast mountain landscape and reflects on how insignificant humans are in it. A minimalist soundtrack accompanies the journey of intense black-and-white images that evoke memories of a universal, mythical mountain.

In the display cases an attempt is made to show the beauty and uniqueness of nature. Decoupled from growing space, it becomes clear that it does not simply allow itself to be preserved and confined.
Locked in is a one-off collaboration by Frank Bruggeman and Joke Olthaar on the occasion of the group exhibition ϟEnergyϟ. Both work with elements of nature in their own practice. As residents and neighbours in B.a.d, they often bump into each other in this corridor.
A long prelude
An investigation into stones and mountains that could go on forever. The observations of the stones that Joke Olthaar found in the mountains of Switzerland are the starting point for the installation. In the bridge keeper's house, work is brought together and built up from layers of glass and stone. This is combined with moving images. The work changes throughout the exhibition.

Berg follows the stories of the stones, rocks and peaks of a vast mountain landscape. Stark black and white images and a minimalistic soundtrack draw the viewer into a vibrant, intense, cinematic experience. Just as all sense of scale is lost amidst this raw and primal cinematic trip across the panorama of the mountains, we see three small human figures - hikers tackling the peak.
