Katinka van Gorkum (Rotterdam, 1988) is a visual artist, performer and writer interested in the interior as a figure for interiority. Van Gorkum's life and practice are intimately intertwined, with the concept of 'a house' at the center. She sees a house not as a fixed concept but as a skin, a part of the surface with which people cover the world around them. Through the private domain, she investigates the interior world of humans.
Project/artistic research ~ Húsgenoaten: echo’s en sporen van een lesbisch archief
During an artist-in-residency at Kunsthuis SYB in 2023, Pia and Katinka started researching the Lesbisch Archief Leeuwarden (Lesbian Archive Leeuwarden) which existed from 1976 until 2013. They considered what it means to open up this archive in an artistic context. An important part of this practice for Pia and Katinka is the affective relationship with the material, an echo of the intimacy from the early days of the archive, while drawing on their bond as roommates.
Beste Anna, - een onderzoek naar de schrijfster Anna Blaman (1905-1960)
In dit onderzoek fungeert Anna als motor voor vragen, gesprekken en correspondenties rondom feminisme in Nederland, schrijvende vrouwen en de canon, anders-zijn, homo- en vrouwenemancipatie, eenzaamheid en vriendschap. De beelden, teksten en geluiden die ik vind en maak, verzamel ik in een virtuele ruimte in het programma SketchUp. Langzaam transformeert mijn onderzoeksruimte tot de privékamer van het personage Anna.
Artist-in-residence bij Stichting B.a.d. Rotterdam
Gedurende tien maanden was ik artist-in-residence bij Stichting B.a.d. in Charlois. Ik heb deze periode gebruikt om me te richten op het schrijven van literaire fictie. Ik volgde tijdens mijn residency meerdere schrijfcursussen (o.a. bij The Writers Guide to the Galaxy) en deed via Stichting B.a.d. mee aan de atelierroutes Groot Atelierweekend Rotterdam en South Explorer. Voor deze exposities maakte ik twee zines met eigen teksten, een installatie met tekst en droeg ik eigen werk voor.
A.pass, post-master at Advanced Performance and Scenography Studies, Brussels, BE
a.pass (advanced performance and scenography studies) is an artistic and educational research environment that welcomes research practitioners, from all professional backgrounds in an international self-organized, collaborative and trans-disciplinary program.
At a.pass I have started exploring the notions of interior and interiority in virtual space using the design program SketchUp.

Guest teacher at Royal Academy of Arts, The Hague
From 2013 - 2016 I worked as a guest teacher at the Royal Academy of Arts The Hague. During one semester a year I created a workshop for the second year students at the Fine Arts Department.
From 2020-2021 I worked as a guest teacher doing studio visits with the second, third and fourth year students at the Fine Arts Department
The Holls Collective
From 2013-2017 I was part of The Holls Collective:
"The Holls Collective is a group of eight artists, who use their group dynamics as both subject and medium. While retaining their individual practices, the members of The Holls operate as an interdisciplinary machine, involving physical labour, longevity and endurance to create performances, videos and space-invading installations."
20 B - Artwork in public space for the Municipality of Rijswijk
20B is a permanent sculpture for the playground of the new location of a primary school. The work consists of 8 elements that are derived from a working period during which the artist installed her studio inside the school. Where the school focuses on learning and facts, the world on the playground stands for play and fiction. 20b is an attempt to turn the playground into a place where memories find shelter, reality can be questioned and stories begin.
