Kees Proper

Kees Proper works with sculptural forms that move between the recognizable and the alienated. Their practice creates figures that seem stuck in their own materiality: sagging rubber, meandering objects, and forms that resemble bodies but resist full definition. They carry desires within them, as if reaching for something just out of reach. Kees investigates how power structures become visible in the everyday and how they become entrenched in both materials and bodies. Based on lived experience, their work touches on themes of visibility, bodily autonomy, and identity, in a constant movement as fluid as the forms they create.
