Kyra Nijskens

Kyra Nijskens is currently pursuing her MFA at Piet Zwart institute. Her most recent project zooms in on the symbol of the butterfly, that represents transformation, magic and the amalgamation between the physical and immaterial world. Besides butterflies having alluring colors, patterns and methods of deception that are fascinating from a painterly perspective, she reflects on their behavioral blueprints, survival strategies and wing patterns, believing important insights can be gained from biomimic bodies of knowledge. She is especially intrigued by the non-anthropocentric approach towards aesthetics that can be obtained from studying the surface of butterfly wings in relation to painting.
