Marijke Appelman

artistiek onderzoek - fotografie - experimenteel - schrijven

Marijke Appelman is an artist, facilitator and co-founder of The Young Petanque Club Rotterdam. Alongside these artistic practices she has been working as an art educator teaching photography, fine arts and social practices for ten years. Next to a BA in Fine Art Appelman holds an MA in Education in Arts with a research focussing on feminist pedagogies. In her artistic practice, she explores both theory and praxis mostly working on the subject of repair-work through an intersectional feminist lens. Analogue photographic printing techniques and leftover materials are explored and allow for material learning (learning by doing) to be part of a dialogical, performative process in which the emancipation of the not-knowing plays an important role. She exhibits her work all over the world and participated in Artist in Residency programs around Europe.
