Marit Shalem, born in Haifa, Israel, 1971, moved to Berlin in 1989 just two months before the wall went down. After graduating at the HdK (now UdK), Berlin, an exchange period to Glasgow and to Rotterdam, she has moved to Rotterdam. She works these days in both the Netherlands and France and goes also under the name SpOp. Her art works follow an artistic research into recent visual culture and the impact of commerce on human communication. Between 2014-2016 she has curated the film series Layers in WORM, Rotterdam. In 2018 she has produced the three channel installation Broom-Groom. In the period 2018-2020 she has collaborated with musician Badgewearer for the project Works on White with international performances.
Shalem has been awarded the Culture Prize South Holland 2022, given by the Dutch Cultural Fund. Her installation Alterations has been lately exhibited and presented at Parobrod in Belgrade. Earlier also at the _V2Lab and at the Rotterdam Theater. Her docu-installation Milk is running in MU, Eindhoven till mid March accompanied by a publication. Meanwhile also painting, drawing and collaborating with musician Dirk Bruinsma on audiovisual projects such as Knots, Conveyance and Tribolumina.
Cymph
Het nieuwe audiovisueel project, een reeks performances van duo SpOp & Bruinsma. Het project is verbonen aan een doorgaand onderzoek naar sociale architectuur, onder het project Friendly Architecture.
De performance houdt in: 30-40 min. live van videobeeld en geluid collage. Het materiaal combineerd opnames uit een aantal locaties in Nederland, Duitsland, Groot-Brittannië en Frankrijk met archief materiaal en digitale ontwerpen.

Aankomende tentoonstelling van de omvangrijke documentaire video installatie Milk (34 video componenten, 5 kanalen, 80min. loop). Inclusief activiteiten en panel presentatie rond dit project en de thematiek. Tevens in voorbereiding: boek het project, met transcripts en drie essays. Broken Telephone / Clumped-Dissolved
Met componisten collectief Monoták, en via de samenwerking met muzikant Dirk Bruinsma als SpOp&Bruinsma. Seven minuten stukken muziek gevolgd door video door muzike in een ketting of gebroken telefoon.
Milk - installation
Tribolumina
Audiovisuele performance, geïnitieerd door Dirk Bruinsma die samen met Christian Smith een percussie sessie spelen op gevonden en gefabricirde metalen objecten. Dit in combinatie met elektronica en live video mixing. Een speciaal hiervoor gefilmd en geanimeerde set door Shalem.
Conveyance at Le Ventre

Alterations in Theater Rotterdam
In het kader van het ontvangen van de Cultuurprijs ZH 2022, werd de videofilm installatie Alterations twee weken tentoongesteld in het foyer van Theater Rotterdam. Eerder werd de installatie tentoongesteld en gepresenteerd by het _V2 Lab, Rotterdam. Binnen kort wordt dit project gepresenteerd en geëxposeerd in Parobrod, Belgrado, Servië.
