I draw and write about everyday objects. While working, I travel between my notebook and sketchbook with my pencil, recording the interaction of the pencil within these two worlds. By shifting my point of view, I explore the world of the pencil in the act of drawing, the pencil in the act of writing, the paper, the objects, and my own associations with objects and drawing. Changing my position gives me the possibility to unlock a space where orientation, memories, emotions, and bodily sensations emerge.

I explore how the flat surface of paper can evolve into spatial, vocal, and performative expressions — where body, object, and language enter into conversation.

Visually, I apply a wide range of elements of drawing, such as scratches, crumpled paper, pen pressure, dots, stitched holes, and the contrasts between light and darkness. They provide a vocabulary that I can then convert into an idiom for wider application in my poetry, music, film, and performance.

The paper might be a confined space for my drawings, and the drawings seem to want to perforate it, to escape — a release that allows the viewer to reflect on the impact of a line and the depth of the space it opens by scratch and light. Drawing as a concerto
Drawing as a concerto - In search of the notation of a pen, 2021–2023. In this work, I explored the musical notations of drawing lines. I placed a tuner next to my sketchbook and discovered the pitch of the sounds my pen made while drawing different kinds of lines with varying expressions. For example, a scratch could produce an F note, while a soft line might sound like a false G. I recorded the sound of my pen and wrote down its notations, then played these notations on my cello and recorded the cello sound. In the end, I mixed the sounds of the pen and the cello together.

Through my drawing, I explore how much pressure I can apply with my pencil to a single page in the sketchbook and how many pages are affected by that pressure. I also investigate the effects of pressure on the pages within the sketchbook—how they stick together, open up, or fuse into one.
