Sanne (1993) is born and raised in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. She got her bachelor in Photography in 2018 and works from her studio in Rotterdam-Overschie.

Sanne learns the most of her surroundings when she has a camera in her hands. Her work embodies a deeply personal and observational nature. Her photos show an intimate connection to her subjects, unveiling the essence of everyday life, the ordinary, the struggles and the vulnerability of those captured through her lens. Sanne invests considerable time with her subjects, fostering a bond of trust that enables her to draw nearer, both physically and emotionally.

Her practice is split between personal projects and editorial & commercial assignments.

Victor looking at birds, 2018.
Victor looking at birds, 2018. - In 2010 I met Victor at a small house gathering. Without the least embarrassment, he was sitting on the couch wearing his pajamas. I immediately fell for his dry humour. We now have a fourteen-year relationship together. From a young age, we have seen each other grow and become adults. Victor has been struggling with psychological problems for a long time: dark thoughts, no vision for the future and an average of three hours sleep per night, were common frustrations. This has an impact on Victor, on me and on our lives together. I use my camera to make the situation more humane and tangible. The portraits in my project are intended as a self-representation of love, intimacy and frustrations. Despite the difficult moments that we experience together, we are looking for a better way of living. This, by creating a calmer atmosphere and exploring the freedom of nature.

Moss oak tree, Louisiana, 2021 - From the series: Under the Same Sun (2019-ongoing) As a teenager I often felt insecure in this big world. Growing up in the 90’s with major changes like the rise of the internet and the fast changing climate. What impact does this current individualistic way of living have on my generation? These topics have made me think about my life and the choices I made thus far. I decided to go on a trip around the world in 2019 to break away from busy life in Western Europe. That’s when my project ‘Under The Same Sun’ came to fruition. This personal project is about my generation (the millennials, born between 1980-1996). I started this series from a desire to get to know my own generation better. The stops I made during my journey, range from deserted places in the deep south of America to a cramped 1920's apartment in Vienna. It shows a combination of portraits and landscapes that I intuitively find from destination to destination. In this series the journey functions as a physical starting and ending point but also as a metaphor for the dreams of the millennials.
