SeeHearCollective is a joint effort of artists Žaklina Lečnik (visual art) and Renard A. Aust (sound). In their work they strive to combine the particularities and peculiarities of their own discipline in order to find novel and engaging ways of expressing themselves. Their collaborative oeuvre has a very much searching and re-searching nature. SeeHearCollective is a playground for sketches, concepts, rhythm, shape and colour.

UNFINISHED

Every presentation takes a different form – slightly or even drastically – as we play with the way we share our work with our audience. Our projects are often ongoing. We embrace the ‘unfinishedness’ of our art.

NAIVE

A certain naivety is at the core of our artistic expression: we consciously seek out the feeling of inhibition while developing new ideas and inviting materials into our projects.

FRAGILE

The result is oftentimes works that are fragile.

ACCESSIBLE

Accessibility is key for us: abstraction is a universal language, not depending on background and an invitation to make personal associations.

NON-HIERARCHICAL

There is a strong non-hierarchical or egalitarian element to our visual compositions. The absence of a center of gravity ensures that no specific detail demands attention. The whole, comprising of small elements, creates a balance. Each compositional building block has equal impact.

SeeHearCollective springs from an ongoing dialogue between the visual and the auditory. The questions and responses are shaped by the answers and echoes that emerge from a medium other than one’s own. By combining different disciplines, the language and texture of one’s ‘own’ medium are transformed.

Waterpoems
Waterpoems - It all starts with a line. This line is set in motion and then isolated – becoming a miniature of movement in water. On the flat surface of the sea the wind creates a play of directions, reflecting colours from the surroundings. The depicted wind ensures that it does not remain two-dimensional, but that the line also moves forwards and backwards. The approach is invariably a short line that breaks down into fragments of movement. Although the process is similar for each Water Poem, each time a surprising new effect or a new form or a new interplay of lines emerges. The music elaborates on the idea of a fragmented line. Short gestures are chosen here for their sound aesthetics and direct expressiveness. Initially, all fragments can be heard on their own. Then the fragments are combined with themselves, often in mirrored form or in canon. After that, the different fragments also engage in a musical conversation with each other. In this way, the music gains more and more depth and layering – reflecting the three-dimensional quality of the paper sculptures. Water Poems is one of our larger projects. Like many of our projects, we are working on it over a longer period, taking the time to deepen and to explore. It is exciting to allow thoughts to mature and to probe and research in this way, moving from paper sculptures to sound and back again. The Water Poems ’library’ currently holds 80 works.
Greetings from home
Greetings from home - Greetings from home’ seeks to reverse the idea of typical postcards sent from exotic travels. Oftentimes postcards are used to share impressive vistas of snowy mountain tops, sandy beaches or skylines at sunset with our loved ones. ‘Greetings from home’ focuses on small things of everyday life instead: the mundane chore, the small repeating actions that are easily recognizable for everyone but invariably go unnoticed. The way in which the actions differ from one day to another only really becomes apparent when you put them next to each other, like the ‘spot the differences’ picture puzzles in children’s magazines. To share these very personal experiences lets us rethink the value of the concept of ‘home’ and appreciate the work and pleasure that goes into making one. The collage on the postcards is a selection of three times seven drawings from a collection of 35 drawings in total that depict everyday activities. On the three postcards you can see ‘washing hands’, ‘cutting a bell pepper’ and ‘emptying the bin’. ‘Greetings from home’ is a submission for the curators’ open call ‘POSTCARDS’. Our work will be exhibited in the summer of 2026 in Paris.
Equinox Solstice Equinox Solstice
Equinox Solstice Equinox Solstice - Installation with Drawings, paper sculptures, light and sound, 2021 – 2025 The work centers on the four moments of the year from the title. These are days when temperatures and colours meet And shift. These moments are expressed in pencil drawings as well as paper sculptures and sound. The visual interplay of light and shadow as well as shape and colour is reflected in music that stretches fleeting sounds into new exciting textures. Because the contrasts between the different iterations of the project amplify one another, we enjoy playing with different presentations of this project.
