Tymon de Laat

artistiek onderzoek - muurschildering - schilderen

Tymon's started his career in his own city, Rotterdam, which bristles with life and creativity and where he leaves his mark upon the city itself. Nonetheless, it is not just his home town that is an essential part of his work, as he has been painting murals all over the world, obtaining international recognition. Singapore, Uruguay, United States, England, Germany, Sweden, Ecuador, Mexico for example.

Tymon's work is greatly influenced by his deep love and appreciation for indigenous cultures and Latin America. He started painting murals and canvases, often based on his own photographs of the people he met during his travels. He thus turns the anonymous people met during his trips – often natives – into heroes of everyday life and into the symbol of the wealth of multiculturalism, represented in a deliberately magnified way through swirling patterns and bright colors. As stated by the Graffiti Art Magazine: Tymon's "sensitivity, sense of storytelling and detail bring his work beyond representation towards emotion".

“Madre Tierra” Rotterdam Netherlands - 12 meter x 15 meter. Spray paint and latex on concrete wall. Tymon de Laat 2018. Bergweg, Rotterdam, NL. — Madre Tierra is a message from the mother earth paradise. A notion that all people despite their cultural, religious, ethnical differences, beliefs and appearances still belong to the same human kind and have to live under one roof. This planet is not ours but only borrowed from our following generations. A big thank you goes out to the many people who have made this journey possible. Especially i would like to thank Kick Smol for the invitation. Also my appreciation goes out to the municipality of Rotterdam, the cultuurscouts and people who live in the Noorderhof. Thank you!

“All from this earth” Carlisle England - 7.5 meter x 7.5 meter. Spray paint on wall. Tymon de Laat 2021. Carlisle, Cumbria, England. Project for Blank Wall Assassins For this project I have based my sketch on a photo I took of this little girl at sunset in Don-Det Laos. This image is a reminder for me of that world trip and a strong example of the beauty of humanity. Let’s celebrate our diversity and remind our selves we are all equal and all from this earth. To have the opportunity to paint her in the Carlisle community and add to the cross cultural experience of this town makes me very happy. I imagine the Laos population is sparse here and I hope this piece will raise questions and start conversations.
“Birth of a new age” Rotterdam Netherlands - For the 2021 eurovision festival I have painted the portrait of the Dutch entry Jeangu Macrooy right across Ahoy. This is part of the city dressing campaign of Rotterdam. The design incorporates element that refer to the new track Birth of a new age which tells about the strenght of a person no matter how people percieve you This is based on a surinam expression that half a cent is so small but still has value and cannot be broken. I have used elements of this coin like the round shape and kaffir lime plant of this half cent coin for the design. The light of a new day strike his face and his gaze is set hopefully on the horizon.
