Arabella Turner (UK/NL) makes films, audio-visual installations and text works. Bringing together writing, sound, image and staging, and drawing on place-based research, she builds narrative works that move across multiple time periods and set animals, ecological systems and technologies alongside the human as characters or witnesses.

In Long Grass
In Long Grass - An unseen narrator hides in the long grass of Friesland from a tyrant king. In Long Grass was created during a micro-residency at Het Lage Noorden. The film’s text emerged from a collaborative writing process between Aitana Lopez and Arabella Turner.
Wall Writings (Vol. 2)
Wall Writings (Vol. 2) - Wall Writings (Vol. 2) is part of an ongoing series exploring writing as an expansive, spatial practice. This series was exhibited as part of GRAW at Noranje Studio (Rotterdam).
Garden
Garden - Garden is the most recent collectively edited video work by FilmDak. FilmDak is a rendezvous platform and club for film, video art, and moving image makers hosted by TOT. This community-building initiative offers lens-based artists a space to share work in progress, receive feedback, organize workshops, crits, and other ideas with each other; a place for makers that need space, collaboration, or connections during their creative process. Bury/Imprint/Tunnel (trailer)
Imprint/Tunnel/Bury - Excerpt from Imprint/Tunnel/Bury, a work-in-progress audio work developed across multiple formats: audio walk, radio play, and installation.
As Cliffs Roar, Caves Whisper (trailer)
As Cliffs Roar, Caves Whisper (trailer) - In 1783 two riding officers survey a horizon from a clifftop in southern England. On the beach below, in 2043, a geologist investigates the caves and surrounding geological forms for useful minerals. Through geological, technological, animal and human gazes we traverse between these two timelines, creating a composite reflective of the geologically rich landscape in which both narratives take place.
FilmDakLeaks
FilmDakLeaks - Basements and attics are places where we hide precious things, old memories, or forgotten objects, but they are also spaces for experimentation and trial. In its first presentation outside the TOT building, FilmDak has descended from the attic to the basement to present FilmDakLeaks, a site-specific work that serves as a collective statement. Invited by the Studio's Lange Hilleweg 235 and inspired by the damp atmosphere of its basement, we have created a video loop. Somewhere between Cadavre Exquis and the Telephone Game, each of us worked individually for three days, editing from a shared video archive before passing it on to the next member. Through this process, we have explored the nature of collaboration—its uneasiness, unpredictability, and the ways in which individual gestures can shape and transform the collective. Master students of the Lens-Based Media programme at the Piet Zwart Institute invite you to their graduation show at V2 and WORM, Rotterdam.

Flying Ideas

Locatie: WORM
In samenwerking met: WORM

Flying Ideas is a collective space for works-in-progress. We recognise that the processes of development in between finished works are where we spend most of our time. Yet, this time is often hidden, or if anything is whispered about; it is rarely brought to the forefront, instead attention is focused on the ‘final’ outcome.
