Dalida Georgiou-Achmet is a Greek-Sudanese, Rotterdam-based visual artist who intuitively moves across different media, including sculpture, performance and publication. She researches concepts of archaeological excavation and how they can be used, both metaphorically and practically, as an artistic methodology to explore two-dimensional spaces or ideas. Unearthing and knutselen are central to how she thinks about and constructs her work.

She obtained a BA in Fine Arts from HKU and received her MA in Sculpture from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp in 2024. Dalida participates in collaborative projects, often incorporating them into her work and takes on curatorial roles and production commissions.

JONGENS PLAGEN KUSJES VRAGEN
(2024) JONGENS PLAGEN KUSJES VRAGEN - In this transdisciplinary project I search for affectionate moments in streetfighting videos. Based on my Master’s research, this long-term process serves as a study case for an artistic methodology that uses principles of archaeological excavation to explore two dimensional spaces, such as videos. The project includes sculptures, a video installation and a publication.
Ground Survey
(2024) Ground Survey - is a video installation that serves as a visual map. It documents the process of relocating an exhibition space from the Rubens’ House ticket booth to a garage lot. The work was activated through a performance where I drew on glass with a white marker, gradually revealing the projected footage. This act of scraping the glass resembles the work of an archaeologist uncovering layers at a dig site.
Past Kattendijkdok
(2023) Past Kattendijkdok - “They stand together. White hair, walking assistance, pointing past Kattendijkdok, past Droogdokkenpark, past De Schelde. They are pointing at me.” Past Kattendijkdok is an intervention inspired by encounters during my walk around Kattendijkdok in Antwerp. I embroidered this text around the exhibition space on a 33m long mesh.
I N T E R V A L S
(2022) I N T E R V A L S - is a collaborative project consisting of a series of videos and a publication. A series of ten short video performances represent a drastic, yet melodious way to dig a channel between my and another person's personal space. Each of these spaces exist in a different location, at a different time. This project was created as reflection on the state of keeping social distance. It touches upon the topics of inviting, hosting and acknowledging distance. All videos on: https://vimeo.com/intervals
Digital Excavation
(2022) Digital Excavation - is a sculptural installation consisting of images and shapes extracted from the video project I N T E R V A L S. The development of I N T E R V A L S produced a lot of unused material which, as it often happens, remained unseen while engaging with the final artwork. This installation brings the artistic process —and its discarts— into focus, placing it on a pedestal.
S.E.W.N.
(2022) S.E.W.N. - is a video-patchwork that relates five points of the city of Antwerp with one another. In this video, I “glue” pieces of one space onto another with aim to create a new space where the four points of the city of Antwerp (South, East, West and North) are relating to the Academy’s garden. With this project, I want to share the experience of exploring, imagining and expanding space.
Closing Brackets
(2021) Closing Brackets - is a performance with artist and partner Adriaan Luteijn. I draw brackets on the floor which then Adriaan encloses into rectangles. We repeat this action until the entire floor is covered in paint. The shapes are outlined with tape, serving as our guideline. As a follow-up to one of our previous performances, this work aims to point out the search for balance in a relationship, between being partners, colleagues and still try to remain individuals with independent ideas and choices.
