Through music creation as an artistic practice, I study human conditions with a focus on affect, perception and relation. Community, commoning and decentralization are particularly important areas of research and guideposts for my practice. I work in collaborative projects consisting of texts, scores, performances, videos and installations that attempt to realize ways of being together based in intimacy, hope and generosity. Meaningful participation is an integral part of the processes that I engage in, and often takes the form in the development of methods for decentralized music creation. Education and organizing work with groups such as Family Dinner, Fire is Scary, and Hache Collective also plays a significant role in my socially-engaged practice. With this work I critique art and music scenes and propose alternatives to create more accessible, inclusive and vital communities.
Process: a soup and ink-making workshop
Family Dinner was invited by Jorien Ketelaar & Floor van Meeuwen to present an event at Garage Rotterdam. During the session we will serve soup (Federici soup- based on an interview with Silvia Federici) in bowls that were made by visitors to the exhibition, during claying sessions lead by Jorien and Floor. From the vegetable scrap byproducts of the soup making, we will create natural inks to draw with during a post-lunch discussion on process. Photos Lea Novi.
In the Borderlands with Fire is Scary
In the Borderlands is an exhibition from Fire is Scary from and for the queer, feminist theorist Gloria Anzaldúa. Using an interview with Anzaldúa as source material, Sol wove a new text through a process of translation between English and Korean, translating word by word, phrase by phrase, then restranslating repeatedly and adding layer upon layer through double meanings, purposeful mistranslations, and machine errors.

Family Dinner will be presenting an exhibition with the theme of process at Supermarket Art Fair in Stockholm, Sweden with artists Berksun çiçek and Vlada Predelina.
Escapology, Performance with Rei Kakiuchi
During Hache’s residency at Goethe Institut in Rotterdam I met Rei Kakiuchi. We connecting over the topic of making sound/music from shells and on Friday I will play a small part in his presentation.
Research Residency (Stichting CORPO), with Family Dinner
CORPO hosted Family Dinner for a one week research residency in 2023. We focused on the relation between food, the body and capitalism. During the week we carried out research and practice through a number fo activities including drawing, walking, discussions, hosting, cooking, preparing, and gardening. On the final day of the residency, we hosted a meal and discussion about food and the body, followed by an open studio presentation.

Juxtapose Art Fair
Family Dinner presented our work at Juxtapose Art Fair for artist-run initiatives. We shared a timeline of our development, video and installation works, and publications. We also hosted a think tank on the topic of community care.
