(EN) I’m fascinated by the processes of deterioration, neglect, and decay in the urban environment and the emotional connection we have with these cycles. How do we react to our ever-changing urban surroundings, and how can this environment simultaneously provide me with the materials and tools to understand it? Can demolition be parallel to mourning and material decline to vulnerability? The constant need to construct, demolish, renew, and repair serves as a reminder that nothing lasts forever and everything inevitably breaks down. I’m particularly intrigued by our desire to control the inescapable passage of time and the material preservation of our surroundings. My observations form the foundation for paintings and sculptures, often created from or incorporating found materials, that engage in a dialogue between people, material, and time. In seeking a renewed appreciation for the remnants of our public spaces, I question how material transience can also hold emotional significance for us.

New work ( to disappear is to become a ruin)

Datum:
Locatie: Studio

At the moment I am creating an installation consisting of multiple sculptures and paintings. The work researches decay and architectural neglect as an aesthetic and how we perserve what we find valuable. Which ruins do we leave behind when we disappear? How do we perserve certain layers or moments in time? The paintings and sculptures associate with these questions and offers a gateway for further questioning of these subjects.
