Karlijn de Lange

Karlijn de Lange is a Dutch artist whose work harbors fragmented recollections of desert sceneries, exploring the boundaries between landscape and abstraction through painting and drawing techniques. The work reimagines a vast phenomenal space constituted of both real and imagined memories of cinematic desert land as frames of landscape fragmentations. A memory becomes a map, a documentation of the past devising topographies of longing. Through the abstraction of folds and creases of the sublime desert, perceptions of space and distance are challenged. However, after a closer look, one can start recognizing lines as roads or rivers, real life signifiers that point to actual landscapes as suggested by the coordinates in the names of certain works.
