Laxmi Manuela draws deeply from her personal and cultural experiences to create both intimate canvases and large-scale murals. Influenced by her family’s journey from India to Suriname and then the Netherlands, her work explores themes of identity, femininity, queerness, and cultural heritage. Known for her bold, expressive style she uses her art to spark conversations on topics often kept in the shadows, such as societal expectations and the taboos around sexuality present in her upbringing.\r\n\r\nWorking in both her studio and public spaces, her murals connect directly with a diverse audience, fostering a powerful sense of interaction. Through her art, Laxmi Manuela seeks to empower others to embrace their own stories, encouraging openness and authenticity in the journey of self-discovery.
