Meike Driessen (b. 2000) is a visual artist and photographer. She graduated from St Joost School of Art & Design in 2023.
Recognition is the most important exchange between humans; everyone wants to be seen. In order to be seen, you have to show yourself. Meike approaches art and self-expression as a necessary way to form a meaningful life.
In her works, Meike forms a utopia in which every human being is allowed to exist unconditionally. In this utopia, imagery becomes an ambiguous language in which to feel, reflect and communicate. The resulting installations make space in which the viewer is allowed to wander, feel and find parts of themselves.
In her research, Meike explores vulnerability, self-expression, mental well-being, introspection, loneliness, community and hope. She approaches these themes from a personal sensitivity, with an eye for their social urgency.
