Natali Aguirre Montaña is a Rotterdam-based designer and artist working across disciplines. With a background in architecture, spatial design, and interior design, her interdisciplinary practice bridges research, decolonial and feminist theory, and material exploration. Trained in Contextual Design at Design Academy Eindhoven, her work ranges from tufting to bioplastics, from ceramics to photography, and from textiles to spatial installations. She was a member of the Lecture Series Committee (LSC) at Design Academy Eindhoven, where she contributed to the organization, hosting, and photography of talks featuring speakers from around the world. Her graduation project, The Cosmic Implication of Food from Abya Yala, is an invitation to pause, reflect, and inhabit the decolonial potential of everyday acts of care. Inspired by woman-headed households in Colombia, where food preparation and sales often become acts of resistance, reframing the domestic not as a lesser or private realm, but as a site of political and cosmic significance. Her work has been exhibited at Alcova Milano (2026), Dutch Design Week (2025), Van Abbemuseum (2024), and at Vienna Design Week (2024).

Portal to Jaguarity - From Soil's Exhibition at Van AbbeMuseum, 2024 - Dutch Design Week 2024 Portal to Jaguarity' is an invitation to rethink our desire to conquer, own, and tread upon soil. Places called "unknown" or "undiscovered" were cherished by our ancestors and local communities for centuries before the advent of scientific exploration or tourism. In Chiribiquete, the largest Natural Park in the Amazon Rainforest, preserved over time, its inhabitants celebrated "Jaguarity" through shamanic art over 10,000 years ago, summarizing it through an "X." They honored the jaguar as a symbol of harmony in duality with more than 75,000 icons. From their unique vantage point, at the intersection of the equinoctial line and the alignment of the tepuis, they revered the jaguar as both a terrestrial and astral figure, recognizing it jumping in the night sky as the constellation known in the West as Orion. A large-format tapestry, combining oil painting and tufting techniques, celebrates the healing power of art. It serves as a portal to Jaguarity, connecting the astral and terrestrial landscapes of Chiribiquete through imagination, inviting us to engage with the soil in a meaningful, respectful way. In this portal, conquest is knowing without going.

Cosmic Implications of Food from Abya Yala - From Milan Design Week ‘26 - Alcova Milano 2026 - ‘The Cosmic Implications of Food from Abya Yala’ is an invitation to pause, reflect, and inhabit the decolonial potential of everyday acts of care. Inspired by woman-headed households in Colombia, where food preparation and sales often become acts of resistance, designer Natali Aguirre Montaña reframes the domestic not as a lesser or private realm, but as a site of political and cosmic significance. Drawing on feminist-decolonial thought, the project threads ancestral knowledge into present awareness through material and metaphorical engagement with corn and textiles. The installation forms an ‘abigarrada’ (layered, contradictory, mestiza) landscape, inhabiting the ‘borderland’ between ancestry and modernity, public and private, male and female. It asserts that food, especially the ‘arepa’, an ancestral corn-based bread, is not only a cultural artefact, but a cosmic connector sustaining lives, identities, and histories in Abya Yala (the decolonial name for the Americas).

Water's significance transcends the physical realm; it invites us to reconsider how our perceptions of time and our experiences of the past, present and future are intertwined. By conceptualizing our bodies as dynamic bodies of water, we can acknowledge both our fluidity and our fragility, revealing a deeper experience that transcends boundaries, and fosters a deeper understanding of our shared humanity as we strive for a more inclusive and liberated future.
