Niek van der Meulen is a Rotterdam-based artist interested in storytelling media, literature, photography and illustration.
Niek is a visual storyteller. He writes comics, essays and zines, and works with video.
He believes that the inherent connection between textual content and visual form, the interplay of words and images, can open up new ways of perceiving literature. Niek writes to find out things he didn’t know about himself. And most of all, to get closer to the reader while creating more distance. His stories are a reflection of his personal journey of self-discovery, development and exploration.
Educational themes often feature in his work. Whether it’s museum education or educational publications about prehistory, Niek likes to share his passion and enthusiasm for history.
