At the core of my artistic practice is a deep desire to create meaningful connections—between memory and material, between the personal and the universal, and between myself and the audience. My work is a persistent gaze, a careful scrutiny of the fragments of memory that surround me: the environments I inhabit, the influences that shape me, and the amalgamation of these elements into something tangible. These fragments slowly evolve into physical forms, textures, colors, and materials, transcending their origins as mere memories to become living, breathing entities.

I seek to evoke empathic experiences in those who encounter my work. Each piece is a timeline of my life, embedded with multiple hints and clues. Like a detective piecing together a narrative, I uncover signals, find common threads, and reenact factual images that refer to specific events. The methodological analysis of these memories defines the chosen narrative, guiding the process of cutting, sewing, welding, sculpting, and reimagining.

Materiality plays a central role in my practice. I often work with metals—particularly aluminum—as well as wax, wood, ceramics, and two-dimensional mediums like drawing and imagery. The properties of these materials speak to me, offering a starting point for imagination and creation. Through research and experimentation, I connect these materials to moments of unsystematic events that captivate my interest. These moments, often intertwined with other memories, evolve into newly constructed narratives, akin to fictional stories. This unorthodox approach allows me to craft visionary tales through a multidisciplinary lens, bridging two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms.

Ultimately, I am an artist who invents stories by mixing, amalgamating, sculpting, and editing the memories I’ve gathered throughout my life. By sharing these stories, I invite others into my imaginary realm—a space where sculptural novels come to life, waiting to be explored and felt.

GGOKTU-GAKSI, Put Your Hand into Me

GGOKTU-GAKSI (꼭두각시) literally means "wooden doll" in Korean, a figure that one can animate negotiating autonomy and submission, either by pulling strings attached to it or by putting your hand inside its body and moving your fingers. Growing up in South Korea, Pyeori Jung observed how discipline and play are braided together - games in childhood reinforced obedience, rigid education and mandatory military service ingrained a sense of control over movement.

In Search Of...

"In Search of...", is inspired by the Proustian exploration of memory and examines the countless fragments of our forgotten experiences. The artists are invited to experiment and create new pieces using everyday objects as their starting point. Through processes of deconstruction and transformation, they fold, twist, pull, stretch, enlarge, and burn these objects, reshaping their shapes and colors to evoke the vibrations and memories they contain, thus revealing their inherent poetry.
