Als individu heb je nauwelijks grip op de omgeving, de werkelijkheid vormt zich terwijl je machteloos toekijkt.
Ik zoek als maker naar beelden waar ik grip kan krijgen op de tijd. In mijn werk zoek ik naar momenten van houvast.
Het zijn menselijke ankers in een teloorgaande, veranderende omgeving.
Het zoeken naar dat wat blijft in een context die verdwijnt, vormen de visuele ijkpunten die als het goed is, zowel pijn laten zien als troosten.

The Soul of Aleppo
The Soul of Aleppo - The Soul of Aleppo is an experimental dance film and multisensory installation reflecting on the destroyed bazaar of Aleppo. Through the circular movement of the dancer, the work evokes repetition as a condition of life: collapse and reconstruction, falling and rising again. The rotating body, reminiscent of a whirling dervish, becomes a symbol of infinity and endurance, mirroring the city’s long history of destruction and renewal. Inspired by Sufi thought and the recurring poetic line “The wider the vision, the more difficult it becomes to express,” the work addresses the limits of language when confronting profound loss and resilience. As the phrase repeats in the soundscape, meaning shifts from words to sensation. The installation incorporates scent as a vital narrative layer. Gradually changing aromas of spices, coffee, and sweetness activate memory and embodiment, evoking the experience of moving through the souk. The work was first presented in 2016 as a video installation inside a metal shipping container placed in a public square in Rotterdam.
Theatre of Wrong Decisions #Syria
Theatre of Wrong Decisions #Syria - This work is presented as a video installation that uses the logic of a chess game as a metaphor for the Syrian conflict. The game is already lost, yet it continues—time is deliberately prolonged while destruction accumulates. At the center of the video stands the king, placed on a block of ice that slowly melts. His fall is inevitable, but the delay comes at an immense cost. All chess pieces are made of clay, emphasizing fragility, impermanence, and human vulnerability. The pieces were handcrafted by artist Ingrid Rolema. In front of the screen, the installation extends into physical space: a large chessboard covers the floor, fi lled with broken clay chess fragments. Visitors are invited to stand among the debris, placing their feet on the chessboard while watching the fi lm. By physically entering the fi eld of collapse, the viewer becomes part of the suspended moment—caught between waiting, witnessing, and loss. The installation invites empathy through embodiment, time, and shared fragility rather than direct representation of violence.
3029td
3029td - 3029 TD Takes its title from a postal code of a street that no longer exists. What remains is not the place itself, but its imprint memory sedimented in movement, rhythm, and absence. The city appears as a condition shaped by repetition, where time circulates rather than progresses. The body functions as a receptive surface, registering external forces: traffic, light, proximity, delay. Urban motion unfolds as a continuous approach and withdrawal, a system without arrival. Fragments of the street drift across the body, blurring boundaries between interior sensation and exterior structure. Orientation dissolves; experience becomes unstable. Red permeates the work as intensity rather than symbol an atmospheric pressure that signals vulnerability, urgency, and exposure. The disappearance of the street mirrors the erosion of place and certainty. The work reflects on how environments vanish, yet continue to act upon bodies, long after they have been erased from the map.
Word, word, word
Word, word, word - Word, Word, Word is an installation about language losing its ground. Words fall literally and metaphorically as meaning evaporates and communication dissolves into noise. Once meant to unite, words are increasingly used to steer, distort, and divide. The work also confronts a deeper failure: language can no longer carry the weight of the big ideals and grand visions that once shaped societies faith, political promises, collective futures. In a shipping container, a symbol of a world where goods, ideas, and dreams travel without borders, language collapses as well. Books and pages hang overhead like a falling archive: echoes of what words once meant. The installation asks not for agreement, but for presence at the moment meaning breaks.
Saut Samt
Saut Samt - The city is not seen but heard a sensory journey through urban sound where noise becomes music, silence becomes language, and the listener stands inside the fragile dialogue between human and city
