Sam Koopman

Sam Koopman (1992) is a Dutch-Canadian filmmaker and visual artist based in Rotterdam. After training as a cinematographer at the Vancouver Film school he worked on independent film projects in Canada, France and USA. Since returning to the Netherlands he has shifted focus on developing his own artistic practice and film based work. \r\n\r\nUsing primarily video and (expanded) cinema he explores his encounters with people and place: the role of his lens, the tragedy and comedy within it. His work straddles the border of documentary and fiction and focuses on collective meaning making. Using (spontaneous) interaction as a starting point, he opens audio visual discourse around differing perspectives, experiences and implications surrounding the filmmaking process.
