Toran Wolstencroft is a Scottish filmmaker who explores the horrors of the human predicament and its effects on our wellbeing. Their work is motivated by a rational desire to see human society develop in a moral way. Toran often implores a methodology of cross cultural collaboration inviting creators from different countries to share in the process and create collectively.

Kisiwa cha Roho – Island of Spirits (2021-2024) - Kisiwa Cha Roho (Island of Spirits) is a short film about 5 Children who get lost on a family outing in the city of Stone Town, Zanzibar - Tanzania.Through the narrow streets and dark alleys they discover sinister pathways to new worlds, each to learn their own truth, until the youngest; Aisha is granted a wish by an ancient creature from another world.The film is in Swahili with English subtitles.Salum stika, a local Zanzibari film maker, and I teamed up to make this film.
Berserk Tribute (2023) - Berserk is an iconic Manga, the story is a fundamental battle between dualities; between the protagonist Guts and his nemesis Griffith, in the simplest terms it can be boiled down to the battle between good and evil. However, more complexly it illustrates the battle between ambition and altruism both paths united by total sacrifice. The brutal and depraved world of Berserk can serve as a mirror for the state of our world, the glorification of bloodshed and the corrupting nature of power.
EAT, SHIT, DIE (2022) - EAT,SHIT, DIE IS A SPECULATIVE FICTION WHICH ATTEMPTS, THROUGH WORLD BUILDING, TO PROVIDE AND EXTREME RISK ASSESSMENT OF OUR SPECIES' FUTURE. SYNOPSIS: THE YEAR IS 2084 THE SURVIVORS OF THE PROLETARIAT ARE IMPRISONED IN THE BLOCK SYSTEM,CONDEMNED TO LIVE THEIR DAYS THROUGH VIRTUAL REALITY CONSUMING THEIR OWN RECONSTRUCTED FAECES. THE TECHNOCRATIC ELITE LIVE IN A STATE OF DEVOLUTION AS THEY SURRENDER THEIR LIFE FORCE TO GREED INCARNATE.
Prophesy of Thoth (2019) - This short film is based on the cataclysmic predictions of the Prophecy of Hermes, The Greek adaptation of Egyptian god Thoth. Contrary to the dominant Ancient Egyptian creation story, in which Horus is the supreme god, the Cult of Thoth believed that Thoth was in fact the origin of the universe, the ibis god who wrote himself into existence from nothingness. Thoth is the god of writing and knowledge and is also responsible for permitting souls into the various realms that exist after death. His prediction of humanity’s descent into ungodliness outlines many human flaws that are beckoning the wrath of the “Evil Angels”. I construct a visual narrative of this prophecy in order to highlight some of the many ways humanity is carving out a path towards its own extinction. Hell bent on constant productivity we ignore the core of our spiritual existence on this Earth and our roles as stewards of nature, bearing the responsibility of leaving an “inheritable” earth for future generations.

“The Creative Bridge” - Bridging the creative gap

The creative bridge aims to develop a network between Tanzania and the Netherlands. Enhancing collaboration between digital artists, makers and designers across cultures. Encouraging an atmosphere of international collaboration and knowledge exchange.
The project is to explore and record a process of weaving a network of creatives from, initially, The Netherlands and Tanzania, with a view of expanding to include other countries later.

A documentary considering ecology and geopolitics from the standpoint of birds our relationship to them. The film is set in Morocco.
Accompanied by a professional, life long bird watcher (James Alan), Toran attempts to learn more about the interconnected paths of humanity and birds.
