Tutu Guo (b. 1996, Guilin) grew up in Guangzhou and currently lives and works in Rotterdam. She holds a BA in Transformation Design from the Willem de Kooning Academy. Working primarily with photography, she develops multidisciplinary projects encompassing installation, writing, and textiles. Her practice explores the body, personal memory, transformations in plant life, and the ways individuals are shaped and perceived through social norms, systems of evaluation, and cultural contexts. Combining personal experience with narrative, participatory structures, and material experimentation, she appropriates and transforms familiar symbols and institutional systems to reconsider subjectivity, vulnerability, and failure. Her work has been presented at Rotterdam Photo Festival, the 2025 Guangzhou Image Triennial, House of Lucie Athens, and the Noorderlicht Photography Foundation, and has been selected for the upcoming PhMuseum Days 2026 in Bologna.

Echo Only Post Office
Echo Only Post Office - Echo Only Post Office consists of images that revisit the artist’s childhood experience of loss through family archives, photographic re-editing, textual annotations, and a fictional postal system. In 2007, when the artist was eleven, her father passed away. Returning to the family album as an adult, she encounters not simply memories, but s shifted perspective: she is both within the images and outside them, already aware of the ending that those depicted could not yet foresee. The work constructs a system of “existential time values”, in which stamp denominations no longer signify monetary worth but instead correspond to the duration or mode of existence of people, plants, and everyday objects. The artists father, mother, and younger self mare marked “44Y”,”39Y” and “11Y”. Each image is issued by the Echo Only Post Office and accompanied by the notice: “This stamp may be used for mailing, though its message will never reach its intended recipient.” The fictional postal system, which allows only sending but never receiving, mirrors the one-directional structure of mourning. Within this framework, grief becomes legible not only as an individual emotion, but as a shared condition: a mode of coexistence with absence. It reveals how relationships can endure without resolution, how irreducible distance does not erase connection, and how presence can be sustained through echoes rather than direct exchange. Love, like grief, is an echo: quiet, continuous, and formative.
