Vanda Vlašič (2000) is a visual artist and researcher working at the seam where the world ends and another begins. Her practice is a form of world-building: she constructs parallel realities through sculpture, writing, and drawing, each medium a different frequency of the same signal. Her work is centered on materiality and tactility, and on the stories that objects carry. She combines reclaimed and found materials with newly fabricated forms, allowing the history embedded in each object to shape the work rather than being overwritten by it.
Her practice engages science fiction and speculative fabulation as conceptual frameworks rather than genres. Through them, she explores alternative realities and possible futures, investigating how such worlds might be experienced through material form. Her sculptures function as propositions: objects that ask what it might mean to encounter another world through touch, weight, and surface.
Writing and drawing extend the concerns of the sculpture rather than standing apart from them. Together, the three mediums form a unified practice of world-building and storytelling, one that treats material culture as a resource for imagining futures that remain connected to the present.

Destilaat #25
Every year, Extrapool visits the graduation exhibitions of the Dutch art academies. What keeps these young artists busy? How do they shape their work at the end of their academic years? In November, we invite a selection of promising freshly graduated artists for a two-week working period at Extrapool. Together, they will organize an exhibition throughout our building, from kitchen to bathroom, from basement to roof, with old and new work and a smashing opening night.
