ZZ is an urban and spatial designer based in Rotterdam. Her way of seeing was shaped early on by the classical Chinese garden principle of 移步换景: the idea that a single step forward can completely reframe one's perception of space. This notion continues to inform how she draws, photographs, and moves through the world.

She draws to understand. Fast lines follow movement before settling into form, balancing observation with imagination. Her visual language is informed by Picasso's abstraction, Matisse's freedom, Woshibai's understated storytelling, and the expressive line of a dancer's gesture.

Her background in architecture and urbanism has taught her to think across multiple scales, from the intimacy of a room to the complexity of a region. Rather than separating artistic and spatial practice, she sees both as ways of asking how people perceive, inhabit, and remember places. Influenced by the functional flexibility of Japanese Metabolism and the playful spatial choreography of Jacques Tati's Playtime, she is interested in how movement reveals space over time rather than all at once.

Walking and photography have gradually become her primary artistic methods. She is drawn to wind and water, to conversations, landscapes, and everyday rituals — to the quiet moments through which a place begins to reveal itself. While urban design often requires distant perspectives and strategic thinking, her artistic practice deliberately moves closer, attending to lived experience, subtle atmospheres, and the emotional texture of ordinary environments.

Living and working between cultures has further sharpened her sensitivity to questions of belonging, memory, and the ways people negotiate place in everyday life. Through photography, drawing, mapping, and publication, she explores the relationship between landscape, migration, and spatial experience — always returning to the simple act of taking one more step, and discovering that the view has changed once again.
