NIEUWS | Florine van Rees en Vincent Dekkers geselecteerd voor fotografieproject 150 jaar Nieuwe Waterweg

Florine van Rees and Vincent Dekkers will carry out their submitted project proposals for the 150th anniversary of the Nieuwe Waterweg on behalf of CBK Rotterdam. Their proposals, selected from 45 entries, focus on people on the Nieuwe Waterweg.

The committee, consisting of Ibrahim Alaoui Chrifri (CBK Rotterdam), Nicole Robbers (the Power of Rotterdam) and Anne Bloemendaal (Flowerdales Agency) was pleasantly surprised with the level of submissions. In the Committee's opinion, the proposals by Van Rees and Dekkers really add something to the images of this industrially, economically controlled area. “We have thought a lot about what we want to show at the celebration of 150 years of the Nieuwe Waterweg, which image has not yet been stored in the City Archives?”, says Anne Bloemendaal. “The proposals, from romantic and poetic to architectural and landscape, really surprised us. But with the future of the city in mind, we wanted to focus on people, the 'Waterwegger'.”

About the photographers
Florine van Rees (1988) is known for her feminine, fashionable but also quirky and colorful photography. Van Rees shows that it is not just a question of tough men and big ships, but that it is also about strong women and the modern city that has emerged along the Nieuwe Waterweg over the past 150 years. A city full of colour, with a great diversity of people, a modern metropolis that opens itself optimistically to the future.

Vincent Dekkers (1971) approaches people and asks all questions. He knows how to photograph people through his disarming, honest and sincere curiosity. For the assignment, he focuses on meeting, living together and working together, bearing in mind that 1 in 3 Rotterdammers say they sometimes feel lonely.

Exhibition Maastunnel
From 1 July, the photos of Van Rees and Dekkers can be seen along the escalators in the Maastunnel. In addition, the images will be included in the collection of the Rotterdam City Archives.

This project is partly realized thanks to CBK Rotterdam, Het Stadsarchief and the Municipality of Rotterdam.
