Tentoonstelling | Machteloos van Judy van Luyk

Galerie Lecq aan de sluis presents the exhibition Powerless by artist Judy van Luyk. Located in the historic Bridge Keeper's House on the Westzeedijk in Rotterdam, this intriguing exhibition highlights feelings of powerlessness in modern society.

In her latest installation, Judy van Luyk uses three video performances to depict her personal struggle against powerlessness. “The work arises from my feeling of inability to change anything in our society. There is so much bad news: war, environment, but also the drug attacks in Rotterdam are frightening. What does this do to me? It makes me anxious, short of breath, trapped, but also angry and combative. If this is how it feels to me, other people may recognize these emotions too. I don't have any immediate solutions, but I can show what my feeling of powerlessness looks like," says van Luyk.

From the street, visitors can witness the intense images on three screens in the Bridge Keeper's House. The artist finds herself in cramped spaces, filled with smoke and limited visibility, where she struggles to free herself. In addition, a close-up of the artist, gun in hand, shows a penetrating confrontation that raises questions about violence and liberation.

The exhibition is open to the public from April 7 to April 28, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
