Tentoonstelling | Passages en Passant #4

Passages in passing is a series of exhibitions in the corridor of the Goethe-Institut Rotterdam in which the works of two artists enter into dialogue. This format is intended as a space for exchange with and through the works, a cause for discussion and as a meeting place for interested parties.

In the context of Goethe Investigating, the Institute will be inviting artists in the coming months who will conduct research with each other and the space outside their own artistic practice. For the current exhibition these are Hieke Pars and Gert Rietveld, whose works can be seen until Friday 28 November.

Hieke Pars and Gert Rietveld
Hieke Pars investigates the value of the subsoil in a continuous process. She develops a visual language in which the physical, tactile and sculptural qualities of the ground become visible as an autonomous raw material. In this research, she works together with municipal institutions that investigate drilled subsoil, after which the investigated soil is incinerated as waste.

Much of Gert Rietveld's work can be categorized as exploration of space, in all possible senses: three-dimensional space, imaginary space, represented and metaphorical space, linguistic space, etc. He is intrigued by the way we use our experiences in physical space to create other organize and navigate domains, and vice versa.
