Minne Ponsen

Ponsen's work fits into the categories of collage, mixed media, and drawings, as most of her creations combine imagery with sourced materials, whether they are images from the internet, her personal archive or objects with strong connotations. However, she likes to view her practice as fiction—stories about everyday life, human connections, emotions, and societal dynamics. Her concepts are based on the belief that within our unique and personal lives, we share common experiences with others, creating a collective narrative that binds us.
In her works, she explores the border between the autobiographical and the universal, as she believes the stories she tells are true to her own experiences and, therefore, relatable to others.
These narratives take shape as she constantly seeks a balance between the serenity and madness of daily life, both in her concepts and in the body of her work. For example, in her piece "Birth of 24 Mice," a digital collage with personal imagery framed by drawn human hands and mice, she explores the tension and symbiotic relationship between mice and humans—a dynamic that has become so normalized.
Born in Rotterdam in 1999, she grew up with access to the internet and city life—a fast-paced world that influences her practice. Through drawing and working slowly, she doesn’t aim to react or solve; rather, she focuses on processing, copying, pasting, and transforming her observations into auto-fiction.
